Industrial design. Tangible Interaction. Soft goods.
This experimental radio was an exploration in form and interaction. I was inspired by zen gardens and rock balancing arts, but was curious about their tangibility. What happens when what's usually rigid instead becomes soft and squishy? Does an air of playfulness contradict or augment mono no aware? I'm intrigued by the capacities of soft circuitry and the effect textiles can have on our interactions with technology.
I used reed switches, soft pressure sensors and analog circuitry to control the radio. The arrangement of certain pebbles on the base changes the radio station. By linking the pebbles together to complete the circuit, the volume can be changed to high or low.
